As a colonial who thinks it's time to get rid of the monarchy (at least here in Canada), I was not sure how I was going to take this book, which is the story of the Queen's new-found enthusiasm for reading. But I found Bennett's story quite delightful, occasionally quite funny, and thoroughly engrossing. It's not just the story of the Queen, it's also an examination of the nature of reading. It's the kind of book you could easily devour in one sitting, but I forced myself to spread it out over a few days, and I'm glad I did because it made the ending pay off even more!
